Visible mastery, earned through practice

Forage Academy's skill trees turn every conversation, project, and reflection into visible growth. Inspired by the great skill-based RPGs and grounded in Montessori's "follow the child," kids choose their branches, earn mastery through real understanding, and always know where they are — and what's next.

From Seedling to Master

Four tiers, named for the way living things actually grow. No corporate ladder — a tree, with roots, branches, and seasons of deepening understanding.

01

Seedling

First explorations. Curiosity, wonder, and the first questions that open the door to a topic.

02

Apprentice

Building fluency. Vocabulary, patterns, and the confidence to try things on their own.

03

Journeyman

Confident application. Connecting ideas across subjects and explaining them in their own words.

04

Master

Deep understanding. Original insight, teaching others, and the joy of true ownership.

Because learning isn't one thing

A child who notices is learning. A child who asks is learning. A child who makes — or who reflects on what they've seen — is learning. Forage Academy rewards all four, so progression matches the real shape of understanding.

01

Observation XP

For noticing patterns in God's creation — the veins of a leaf, the order of a sentence, the shape of a Hebrew letter.

02

Inquiry XP

For asking great questions. The Socratic guide rewards curiosity over correctness — because the question is the engine.

03

Creation XP

For making things — drawings, projects, written reflections, real-world activities completed off-screen.

04

Reflection XP

For connecting what they learned to Scripture, to other subjects, or to the life they're already living.

Inspired by classic skill-based RPGs

We borrowed something good from a place you might not expect — and we're not embarrassed about it.

Skill-based, not level-based — craft your own path

The progression model here is inspired by classic MMOs like Star Wars Galaxies — games that let players craft their own character rather than grind a single predetermined class. You weren't "a level 30 Jedi." You were a Ranger who'd also picked up Artisan and a dash of Medic, because that's where your curiosity led. The tree was wide, the order was yours, and mastery meant something because you earned it by doing.

That instinct — let the learner choose, reward depth over checkboxes, make growth visible — is the same instinct Montessori had a hundred years earlier: follow the child. Two very different traditions, one shared idea. Forage Academy stands on both.

"Train up a child in the way he should go." — Proverbs 22:6

Many branches, one tree

Each subject is its own discipline with its own branches — and kids can pursue several at once. A budding naturalist can also be deep in original Hebrew. A young mathematician can also be writing stories. No forced order, no single track.

01

Bible

Torah, New Covenant, Original Languages, Apologetics — plus a dynamic fifth branch that emerges from your child's own interests.

02

Science

Botany, geology, weather, anatomy — observation-led, creation-confident, rooted in real-world foraging and field study.

03

Math & Language Arts

Number sense, reading fluency, writing, vocabulary — mastered through games, conversation, and creative practice.

04

Biblical Wellness

Coming soon — nutrition, herbalism, Sabbath rhythms, and the biblical practices that build a healthy family.

The dynamic Bible branch is one of our favorite ideas. If your child keeps asking about Hebrew letters, a Hebrew Language branch grows. If they're drawn to archaeology and apologetics, that branch deepens. The tree is shaped by who your child is becoming — not by a curriculum writer who's never met them. ❧

Real practice, not time-on-app

Every conversation with the Socratic guide, every completed activity, every reflection, every game played — each one feeds the tree. The growing Forage games library includes Asteroid Speller, Word Forage, Sudoku Garden, Story Puzzles, and Coloring Pages, with more on the way. Daily challenges and sixteen-plus achievements give kids something to chase — but the XP that fills the tree is always earned through real understanding, never through multiple-choice spam or minutes logged on a screen.
